Medical Equipment Lending Program
The Amherst Island Women's Institute maintains a collection of health and wellness support equipment available to community members at no charge. This collection of mobility aids and assistive devices is available for loan—for as long as you need them. The Women's Institute gratefully accepts donations to keep the collection in good repair and to support its other community works.
Available Equipment
Our inventory includes a wide variety of items to support mobility and daily living:
Mobility Aids
- Wheelchairs and patient transport chairs in different sizes and weights, including lightweight and portable models
- Rollators (four-wheeled walkers with built-in seats and brakes)
- Standard walkers, many of which can be converted from fixed legs to wheeled legs as needed (consult with a physiotherapist about which option is best for you)
- Crutches
Bathroom Safety Equipment
- Bath seats and shower chairs, some with arms and backs for added support
- Grab bars to assist with safely entering and exiting the tub or shower
- Commodes that can be used bedside or positioned over a standard toilet to provide a stability framework with solid arms and height adjustment
- Raised toilet seats
The collection is diverse and inventory changes regularly as items are loaned out and returned.
How to Borrow
Loans can be arranged for any length of time - weeks, months, or even a year - based on your needs.
